Tardy Policy
Regular, punctual attendance is essential for students to be successful atschool. Jordan High School places a high importance on punctuality. Any timea student is late to class, to avoid being picked-up in a campus sweep, he/she will need a note or pass. If a student arrives late to school, he/she musthave a note from a parent/guardian in order for the tardy to be excused. Ifcampus security or other staff members stop a student during class time andhe/she is out of class without a pass, the student will be assigned one (1)demerit, required to attend Saturday School, and escorted back to class toresume instruction. The consequences for being tardy are as follows:

First Tardy
(a) Verbal warning by classroom teacher.

Second, Third, and Fourth Tardy
The teacher will:
(a) Contact parent/s.
(b) Record the contacts in a contact log.

Fifth Tardy
The teacher will:
(a) Complete a referral form and forward it to the appropriate counselor.(The student will remain in class).
The counselor will:
(b) Summon the student from class and contact parent/s.
(c) Mail a letter home to parent/s regarding unexcused tardies.

Sixth Tardy
The teacher will:
(a) Complete a referral form and forward it to the appropriate counselor.(The student will remain in class).
The counselor will:
(b) Summon the student from class and contact parent/s.
(c) Meet with parent/s and the student and sign an attendance contract.

Seventh Tardy
The teacher will:
(a) Complete a referral form and forward it to the appropriate counselor.(The student will remain in class).
The counselor will:
(b) Forward the information to the PSA counselor.
(c) Forward the information to the Assistant Principal.
(d) The PSA counselor will set up an appointment with the SART.

Eighth Tardy
The teacher will:
(a) Complete a referral form and forward it to the appropriate counselor.(The student will remain in class).
The counselor will:
(b) Notify the PSA counselor that the student has violated the SARTcontract.
(c) The PSA counselor will complete appropriate paperwork and forwardit to SARB.


NOTE: The process is activated only when the initial steps by teachers arefollowed. It is incumbent upon teachers to share in the responsibility formaintaining good student attendance by:
(a) Communicating high expectations with regard to punctuality andattendance.
(b) Establishing an appropriate classroom management plan withconsequences.
(c) Contacting parents for the first four tardies.
(d) Adhering to the tardy policy.

The Attendance Policy is per semester. When submitting referrals onstudents with five (5) or more tardies, teachers should indicatedocumentation of parent contact on the referral form.
