Principal's Message
"Far below the high Sierras, staunch and stately stands our dear old
Alma Mater, the noblest in the land . . . . In work or meditation, we pledge our hearts so tried.
We love you Alma Mater, our David Starr Jordan High."

The words to the Alma Mater of Jordan High School ring true. We may be far below the high Sierras, but we climb with every step towards those mountains of success.

Welcome to the new school year at David Starr Jordan High School. Jordan High School is alive with a rich history and tradition. We intend to continue to build upon that foundation.

This year we are proud to bring you our annual Parent/Student Handbook with a new look representing a new beginning. Dr. Strachan has relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and it is with great pride and pleasure that I come on board as the new principal of David Starr Jordan High School.

I look forward to becoming a part of the Jordan High School community and to continuing the tradition of pride and excellence. We enter the year with a review of the instructional program through the Accreditation process of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This is an opportunity for us to focus on the school vision, mission and instructional priorities in order to obtain greater student achievement.

Through the lens of seven Core Values – collaboration, achievement, leadership, accountability, positive school culture, equity and service – we will systemically ensure that all students at Jordan are able to:

  • Communicate effectively by speaking and writing to diverse audiences; by listening and reading critically and by reflecting on those communications
  • Compute accurately and apply fundamental mathematical concepts to all curricular areas and in their daily lives
  • Use technology effectively to access, research and organize information for personal, academic and career purposes

On our website you will find information about the school curriculum, rules, counseling services, activities and other facets of school life. We hope that it will assist you in understanding the services we have to offer and our expectations for all students.

We are looking forward to a successful school year. Thank you for being a part of the Jordan High School community.

Sincerely,

Evelyn Mahmud, Ph.D.
